Technology in the Classroom
In 2007, a group of teachers at Eldon Upper Elementary began their training to become eMINTS certified teachers. I was teaching 5th grade at the time, and was part of the first group to receive training. Prior to that time, I was able to type a worksheet and open email! That was the extent of my technology usage... Not very useful in a expanding educational field.
Now I can create powerpoints, webquests and webpages practically in my sleep! I'm always looking for ways to make teaching easier and learning fun. In 2012, when I made the switch back to teaching Spanish at the high school and middle school level, I was able to embrace the addition of technology and what it could do for my classroom. Using video and audio clips, students can see cultural differences and hear authentic use of the language. And we learn that we are never too old to watch Sesame Street!
For the 2017=2018 school year, I plan to bring Smart phone technology and tablet devices into the classroom. Most students have this technology LITERALLY at their fingertips daily, so I'm going to show them to put it to good use. Students who do not have the "newest" technology will not be left out, as these will often be partner and team lessons.
I will also be trying new methods of instruction, using technology.
